First Impressions
The Roto Grip Haywire arrives in a striking Blue, Orange and Black solid design. At its center works the proven symmetrical Middle Roll 70 Core, which carries a 2.500 RG and a moderate 0.043 differential. This core is wrapped in the extremely tacky 80H MicroBite Solid Reactive coverstock, finished with a dull 2000 grit Abralon surface. The medium RG lets the core rotate very definitely, which in combination with the rough cover should make the ball read early and produce a steady, enormously strong motion through the midlane.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Roto Grip Hy-Wire, which features a hybrid cover, the Haywire shows a drastically earlier and far rounder, more controlled reaction on heavy oil. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, the Haywire behaves similarly steadily, but thanks to the 80H cover it often bites a little more strongly in the front part of the lane. Once the transition sets in during a block and friction on the outside boards increases, the solid surface loses energy fairly quickly. It needs a solid oil base in the heads.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Haywire was developed for use on medium to heavy lane conditions. It lets you generate the hook needed to cross the boards safely and effectively even on fresh oil. The symmetrical core should optimize carry through a steady, heavy and consistent entry angle into the pocket. For extremely dry conditions, however, this ball is not suitable; it uses up its energy too early and hits the pins flat.
