First Impressions
Released in June 2017, the Motiv Gold Revolt is a significant addition to the Revolt series and was eagerly awaited by fans of this line. It uses the proven symmetrical Vanquish core, which already made a splash in the previous models. At 15 pounds, this core has a very low RG of 2.47 and a high differential of 0.056. That combination is exceptionally powerful for a symmetrical core, since it pairs an early revving core with massive flare potential. The outer shell is the Infusion Pearl Reactive coverstock, a technology that was new for Motiv at the time and developed for an extremely fast response to friction. Out of the box the ball comes with a 5000 grit LSP (Laser Scan Polished) finish, giving it a mirror-smooth, golden look. This surface should ensure that the ball gets through the heads effortlessly and saves its enormous energy for the breakpoint. The technical concept aims to combine the proven power of the Vanquish core with a modern, angular pearl shell to reach a new dimension of angularity within the Motiv lineup.
Comparison Compared to the original Motiv Revolt, which had a solid coverstock, the Gold Revolt offers a noticeably longer skid phase and a considerably more aggressive move at the end of the oil pattern. Where the original Revolt was known for its early, rolling motion that read the pattern in a controlled way, the Gold Revolt is designed to flat-out attack the backend. Looking across brands to the Storm Hy-Road Pearl, the Gold Revolt shows clearly higher flare potential and a stronger overall motion thanks to its stronger core. In direct comparison the Storm Hy-Road Pearl feels more controlled and rounder, while the Gold Revolt creates sharper angles. Another interesting comparison is the Motiv Paranoia. The Paranoia also had a pearl cover, but it was built on the Oblivion core with a lower differential. As a result the Gold Revolt feels considerably more powerful into the pocket than the Paranoia and handles slightly higher oil volume through the midlane. Compared to asymmetrical powerhouses like the Storm Snap Lock, the Gold Revolt shows a similarly impressive backend reaction but retains the typical continuation of a symmetrical core, which makes it less prone to the extreme direction changes that are hard to control.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Motiv Gold Revolt is on medium to slightly heavy oil conditions, especially once the pattern starts to change. Through the combination of the quick-revving Vanquish core and the highly polished Infusion Pearl surface, this ball is predestined to handle the transition on the lane. When the heads are already slightly played in and dull balls start hooking too early or lose their energy, the Gold Revolt slides cleanly across those boards. As soon as it hits friction at the end of the pattern, it makes a powerful direction change that should noticeably improve carry. If you have a high rev rate, you'll appreciate the ball's ability to come back to the pocket with plenty of angle even from very deep lines, without losing hitting power. Speed-dominant players, on the other hand, benefit from the low RG core, which helps the ball get into its roll phase in time despite the smooth surface. The Gold Revolt is not a classic ball for extremely dry wood, since the strong core could react too early there; its true strength lies on typical house shots or moderate sport patterns. In a competition arsenal it is the perfect choice when you need to create more angle after the first few games in order to keep hitting the pocket optimally. It offers the rare mix of the stability of a strong core and the explosive power of a modern pearl cover.
