First Impressions
The 900 Global Gear comes in a solid black and orange design. Inside works the symmetric Ignition Core with a 2.500 RG and a moderate 0.043 differential. For the cover, 900 Global relies on the S74 Solid Reactive coverstock, sanded to a 4000 grit Abralon finish out of the box. This combination of a medium-strength core and a tacky cover should let the ball read the heads reliably and deliver an extremely smooth, controlled and thoroughly predictable motion down the entire lane. It is designed as the ultimate benchmark.
Comparison
Compared directly to the 900 Global Respect Solid, the Gear grabs a touch softer due to its slightly lower differential and offers a far rounder, less aggressive reaction at the breakpoint. Against a classic benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Gear delivers very similar, steady traction in the midlane, but without turning sharply at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane is high and the transition sets in, the Gear tends to release its energy very evenly. It maintains control on inconsistent boards.
On the Lanes
The 900 Global Gear is best suited to lane conditions with medium oil volume. For strokers and for bowlers with a high rev rate, it offers the chance to control your lines, since the ball doesn't make any unwanted jumps. The steady drive toward the pocket should provide convincing carry, as the ball rolls continuously and predictably into the pins. On fresh, extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can sometimes show too little asymmetry to successfully play steep angles. It is a pure benchmark weapon.
