The Ebonite Game Breaker 2 Phenom slots seamlessly into the tradition of its predecessors and shows up in a classic black and blue solid design. It uses the legendary Enhanced V2 Symmetrical core, known for its low 2.480 RG and a moderate 0.048 differential. The cover is the GB 11.2 solid coverstock, sanded to a 500 and 2000 Abralon finish out of the box. These specs should make the ball start up extremely early and produce a very controlled, even arc. The sanded surface lets the ball dig into the oil quickly, while the symmetrical core guarantees a predictable and smooth reaction at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly to the regular Ebonite Game Breaker 2, the Phenom offers noticeably more traction in the heads and a stronger hook through the midlane thanks to the stronger GB 11.2 coverstock. Put up against the Storm Phaze II, the GB2 Phenom shows a very similar, flowing motion, but often reads the lane a touch earlier still. Once the transition sets in over the course of a game and the front boards build up friction, the Phenom tends to give up its energy very quickly. Unlike asymmetrical balls, it then often lacks the necessary "kick" at the end of the lane to recover from deep angles.
On the Lanes
This ball is a classic benchmark piece for medium to heavy oil conditions. It's the perfect choice for the first game on a fresh pattern, since its smooth motion gives a clear read on the lane conditions. Bowlers of every style can rely on its consistent path to the pocket. The symmetrical core should keep carry consistent even with minor misses. Once the lane dries up significantly, though, the GB2 Phenom often has to be swapped out early, because reading the boards so early costs it punch in the backend.
