First Impressions
The Motiv Freestyle catches the eye immediately with its bright color combinations. At its center works the symmetrical Recon core, which shows a high RG of 2.610 and a very low differential of 0.017. This core is wrapped in the Turmoil LFP Pearl coverstock, finished with a 5500 grit LSP surface. This combination of a weak core and an extremely smooth cover should make the ball ignore the heads almost entirely and save its energy until the very last moment. The specs point to extremely late ball motion.
Comparison
In a direct comparison to the Motiv Venom Shock, the Freestyle picks up much later and offers drastically less traction in the heads. Against the Storm Tropical Breeze, the symmetrical core of the Freestyle delivers a similarly smooth and controllable change of direction at the breakpoint. When friction on the lane is extremely high and the transition dries up the front part of the lane completely, the Freestyle shines. Thanks to its high RG it barely loses any energy and maintains a smooth hook where stronger covers have long since become unplayable.
On the Lanes
The Motiv Freestyle is best suited to lane conditions with extremely low oil volume, or to absolute beginners. For strokers and if you throw the ball slowly, it offers the ability to play dried-up boards safely, since the surface finds no unwanted hold. The delayed drive toward the pocket should provide controlled carry. On fresh oil, however, this ball is completely unsuitable, as it simply slides through the pattern and misses the pins.
