First Impressions
Released in October 2018, the Brunswick Fearless marks a technological milestone in the company's history. It's the first ball equipped with the revolutionary DOT technology (Durability Optimization Technology). This innovation moves the pin to the bottom of the ball and cures the material in such a way that cracking is virtually eliminated and layout options are unrestricted. Inside sits the symmetrical Contra core, which stands out for its squat shape. With a very low 2.474 RG and a medium 0.047 differential (at 15 lbs), this core is designed to start rotating extremely early. It's paired with the Relentless Solid Reactive coverstock in a dark Deep Purple/Black. The factory finish of 500 and 2000 Siaair Micro Pad gives the ball a dull texture that suggests traction right away. On top of that, the DynamiCore outer shell provides optimized energy transfer and better carry.
Comparison
Among symmetrical solid balls, the Fearless inevitably has to stand up against the market leader, the Storm Phaze II. Both balls use very low-RG cores and tacky solid covers to read the lane early. In a direct comparison, the Fearless often comes across as a shade more controlled and rolling a bit earlier in the heads than the Phaze II, yet it offers a similarly strong, continuous arc on the backend. Compared to the Brunswick Magnitude 055, the Fearless is more versatile and less prone to "drowning" in the oil, since the Contra core maintains its rotation better. It isn't a ball for an angular skid/flip motion like a Brunswick Vapor Zone; it defines itself through stability and predictability.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Fearless is the archetypal benchmark ball for medium to heavier oil patterns. Its extremely low RG means the ball transitions into a stable roll phase almost immediately after release, which makes it extremely forgiving on difficult sport patterns. It smooths out the transition from wet to dry beautifully: it doesn't jump uncontrollably when it hits friction, but instead sets up a predictable curve. If you throw the ball fast, it's ideal, because the early roll keeps the ball from sliding past the pocket. It often serves as the first ball out of the bag to read the lane conditions before you possibly switch to polished balls once the heads dry up.
