First Impressions
The 900Global Equilibrium comes in a restrained Maroon/Plum color scheme that underlines its character as a controllable benchmark ball. Technically, this is the first time 900Global has combined the proven S74R coverstock in a hybrid version. Previously, this blend was only found on balls like the Inception or Truth. Out of the box, the ball ships with a 4000 grit Abralon finish, which gives it enough texture to keep it from sliding on the oil. Inside, the Inverted Dome Symmetric Core works with a low 2.49 RG and a 0.045 differential. Those numbers point to a ball that gets into rotation quickly and reads stably through the midlane. The ball motion is extremely smooth and predictable, without the typical overreactions some more aggressive material shows.
Comparison
Within the early 2020 900Global lineup, the Equilibrium serves as the logical addition below the aggressive Volatility. While the Volatility (asymmetric, S86R) grabs much earlier and makes a more angular move, the Equilibrium offers a distinctly rounder and smoother shape. It is cleaner through the heads than a Storm Phaze II, yet still provides more traction in oil than pure pearl balls such as a Roto Grip Idol Pearl. Compared to a Storm Hy-Road, the Equilibrium reads the boards noticeably earlier and is less prone to over/under reactions on fresh oil. It behaves like a classic benchmark symmetric: not the strongest hook in the room, but often the most useful one.
On the Lanes
The Equilibrium is the ideal "first ball out of the bag" for medium to heavy oil conditions. Thanks to the hybrid cover and the 4000 finish, it blends the lane well: it reads the transition in the midlane reliably, but stores enough energy for strong carry in the pocket. It works excellently for league bowlers on typical house shots, since it is more forgiving of ball speed mistakes than sharper balls. As soon as the heads start to dry up and the ball loses energy too early, it is time to switch to shinier material. On sport patterns it offers the control needed to play tight to the pocket without immediately losing contact when you miss to the outside.
