BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Dyno-Thane Elixir Pearl is the shiny counterpart to the original matte Elixir and represents a classic high-performance ball developed specifically for a delayed but all the more explosive release of energy. Visually, this model stands out with its glossy, pearlescent look, which immediately signals that this ball is designed for tremendous length down the lane. At its heart works the same innovative, symmetrical Tri-Stack core found in the solid version. This core features the special Dyno-Sphere technology as well as a modified inner weight block laid out for extreme flare potential. The exact technical specifications for the 15-pound model accordingly come in at a 2.525 RG and a massive 0.059 differential. The decisive difference, however, lies in the cover. Instead of relying on an aggressive, dampening particle blend, this ball is fitted with the GT Pearl coverstock, a reactive pearl blend given a high-gloss polish at the factory. This smooth surface should allow the ball to glide through the heads almost without friction. Rather than shedding its rotational energy early in the oil, the pearl cover stores that energy and releases it only at the breakpoint, which results in a pronounced, sharp hook toward the pocket.
Comparison Drawing a direct comparison, the Dyno-Thane Elixir Pearl reveals a radically different motion profile than its namesake, the matte Dyno-Thane Elixir. While the particle version reads extremely early and forces a heavy, controlled roll phase, the pearl variant runs considerably cleaner and longer, only to react drastically more aggressively to the dry boards at the end of the oil pattern. Compared to a modern benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Elixir Pearl is noticeably more angular and longer. The Storm Phaze II starts working much earlier and describes a steady arc through the midlane, whereas the Dyno-Thane ball ignores the oiled heads almost completely and only unfolds its full dynamics late in its path. Set against a classic symmetrical pearl ball like the Storm Hy-Road, the Elixir Pearl shows even more pronounced track flare thanks to its significantly higher 0.059 differential. As a result, the Elixir Pearl changes direction more vehemently at the breakpoint and generates a considerably steeper entry angle, while the Hy-Road glides somewhat more smoothly and roundly through the backend.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Dyno-Thane Elixir Pearl is on dried-up lanes, at medium oil volumes, or in situations where the front part of the lane has already been played heavily. When transition sets in over the course of a tournament or a long league night and the oil in the heads gets carried away, matte balls often become too sluggish or grab far too early. It is exactly in these critical moments that the polished surface of the Elixir Pearl plays to its absolute strengths, since it glides effortlessly through the worn areas and only looks for the saving friction where it is tactically needed. If you have lower ball speed or a fairly moderate rev rate, you'll benefit from the natural length this cover creates, because the ball doesn't run out of energy prematurely. If you're a bowler with very high revs, you can use this model excellently to move deep inside on drier conditions and play wide, sweeping angles, with the core's enormous flare potential helping to find a safe way back to the pocket. On extremely flat sport patterns or with very high oil volume, however, this ball quickly reaches its limits, since the pearl cover simply doesn't build enough traction in heavy oil and there's a risk of the ball skidding through uncontrolled. Used correctly and at the right time, though, the Dyno-Thane Elixir Pearl should deliver an explosive backend reaction and, thanks to its steep angle, guarantee consistently high carry.
