First Impressions
The Storm El Nino Wrath makes a visual statement with a striking copper and purple color combination, finished off with an attractive pearlized look. Under the hood of this classic model works the proven asymmetric Motion Control Quad Technology core, which was designed for highly dynamic characteristics. With a very low RG of 2.490 and an extremely high differential of 0.065, the core brings the physical prerequisites for a quick roll and massive flare potential. This asymmetric powerhouse is wrapped in the Curelyon2 Pearl Reactive coverstock, which incorporates the special Reactafleck technology. These fine particles in the surface are meant to increase traction on the lane as soon as the ball compresses at impact. The cover ships from the factory with a 1500-grit wet polish finish. This combination of an extremely strong core and a smooth, polished shell aims to let the ball glide effortlessly through the oiled heads, saving the stored rotational energy for an explosive change of direction at the breakpoint. The overall design should deliver a pronounced hook that allows deeper angles and produces a high degree of entry angle into the pins.
Comparison Set against an established benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, clear differences in ball reaction and intended use emerge. While the Storm Phaze II, with its symmetric core and dull solid surface, is built for a very predictable, even arc and early traction in oil, the Storm El Nino Wrath responds far more sensitively and far more extremely to dry areas. Thanks to its pearl cover, the El Nino Wrath glides considerably longer and cleaner through the heads. Once it hits the friction at the end of the oil pattern, it releases its energy in a much sharper and more aggressive move toward the pocket. Another significant difference lies in the core numbers: at 0.065, the differential of the El Nino Wrath exceeds today's USBC limits, which gives it a historically higher flare potential and stronger asymmetry than many current balls. Compared to typical control balls, the El Nino Wrath is therefore less intended for a gentle read of the lane on fresh patterns and much more designed for a pronounced skid-snap effect that will still find its way back from misses out to the outside.
On the Lanes Given its specific performance data, the Storm El Nino Wrath is a ball that shows its true strengths when lane conditions call for an equipment change. It works excellently on drying lanes or on patterns with light to medium oil volume. When the oil in the front part of the lane has been used up over the course of a tournament and the transition sets in, the smooth shell still allows the ball to generate enough length without burning up early or losing energy. If you like to play from deeper inside and send the ball out over a lot of boards, you'll benefit enormously from the strong and prompt response to friction. The high differential supports a very sharp and steep entry angle into the pocket, which should optimize carry even on slightly lighter hits. For bowlers with a lower rev rate, the ball offers welcome help in producing a visible backend hook through the ball's own mechanics. On extremely heavy oil or very long patterns, however, the polished cover can react too sensitively and start to slide. It should therefore be used primarily as an aggressive ball for the later games of a set or for typical house leagues with drier outside boards.
