First Impressions
The 900 Global Dream On was released in February 2018 as a re-release within the new Alpha series, bringing back one of the most popular balls in the company's history. Visually, the ball stays true to its original identity with a striking swirl in blue, purple and black. Inside works the Identity Asymmetric Core, a powerhouse with a low 2.48 RG, a high 0.054 differential and a 0.024 intermediate differential (at 15 pounds). This asymmetric construction produces very fast rotation and high flare potential. The core is wrapped in the 74 Response Hybrid Reactive coverstock, dulled at the factory with a 4000 grit Abralon pad. This combination aims to get cleanly through the heads, grab hard in the late midlane and make an aggressive change of direction in the backend.
Comparison Compared to the original 900 Global Dream (Pearl), the Dream On offers noticeably more traction in oil and a more controlled overall motion thanks to its hybrid cover and matte finish. Where the original Dream was known for its extreme angularity on dry backends, the Dream On is designed to stay stable on higher oil volumes as well. Against the 900 Global Dream Big Solid, the Dream On slots in as the slightly longer and more angular option; the Dream Big Solid reads the lane considerably earlier and more evenly. In a cross-brand comparison with the Storm Phaze II, the Dream On shows a more dynamic change of direction at the breakpoint because of its asymmetric core, while the Phaze II as a symmetric ball describes a rounder arc. Next to the 900 Global Inception DCT, the Dream On comes across as somewhat "weaker" in total hook capacity, but it offers a sharper entry angle into the pocket once the oil pattern starts to break down.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the 900 Global Dream On is on medium to heavy oil conditions. It works as an excellent transition ball when "dull monsters" like the Dream Big Solid start reacting too early but the stability of an asymmetric core is still needed. The 4000 finish lets the ball glide safely through the heads while finding enough friction in the midlane not to shoot past the breakpoint. If you throw the ball fast, you'll appreciate the reliability of the 74 Response cover, which supplies the necessary traction even on slicker surfaces. For rev-dominant players, the Dream On is a valuable tool on longer oil patterns, since it has the backend power to succeed from deeper angles as well. On very dry surfaces, however, the asymmetric core can produce too violent a reaction, so switching to a weaker piece like the After Dark is advisable there. In the pocket, the Identity Core delivers explosive pin action and effectively minimizes flat hits. All in all, the Dream On is a proven high-performance tool that combines versatility with asymmetric aggressiveness.
