The Roto Grip Double Defiant comes to market as an Asia-exclusive release in an eye-catching color blend. At the center of this model beats the massive asymmetric Paragon Core, which features a low RG of 2.490, a hefty differential of 0.054 and a strong intermediate differential of 0.017. The outer layer consists of a high-performance pearl reactive coverstock, polished to a high gloss out of the box. This combination of an enormously strong asymmetric engine and a smooth pearl shell should let the ball glide cleanly through the heads and deliver a very strong, asymmetric roll phase.
Comparison
Compared to the original Roto Grip Defiant, which uses a pure solid cover, the Double Defiant picks up noticeably later thanks to its pearl content and offers a considerably more angular reaction at the breakpoint. Against the Roto Grip Hyper Cell Skid, the Double Defiant produces a somewhat more consistent yet still extremely powerful asymmetric motion. Once the transition sets in and the front part of the lane dries up, it benefits enormously from its pearl cover. It needs friction to bring out its dynamics.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Double Defiant finds its preferred home on medium to heavy lane conditions. It is the perfect choice if you need a ball on broken-down patterns that slides easily through the heads and produces a steady hook toward the pocket. The strong reaction helps you avoid missing the breakpoint. The ball should maximize carry with a powerful drive. On extremely heavy oil, however, this ball can sometimes skid a bit too long.
