BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Domination Focus, released in October 2016, continues the legendary Domination line with an interesting technical combination. At the heart of the ball works the proven RAD+ Core, an asymmetric weight block with a 2.49 RG and a 0.047 differential (at 15 lbs). Those numbers promise a quick rev-up and a strong direction change in the backend. This core is wrapped in the R3S Solid Reactive coverstock. The special part here is the finish: polished to 1500-grit at the factory, the ball offers surprising length through the heads despite the tacky solid cover. The look is flashy, as is typical for the series, and the polish helps the ball store energy for the hit into the pocket. The combination of aggressive solid chemistry and a polished surface aims to pair control with a late but violent hook.
Comparison
Compared directly to the omnipresent Storm Phaze II, the Domination Focus is noticeably longer. Where the Phaze II reads early and creates a rounded motion with its sanded surface and symmetric core, the Focus glides farther down the lane thanks to the polish and the asymmetric RAD+ core, then responds much more sharply to friction. Next to the Storm Hy-Road, the Focus comes across as stronger and more aggressive overall; where the Hy-Road reaches its limits in heavier oil, the R3S Solid cover of the Focus offers more margin in the oil. Compared to a Roto Grip Haywire (also popular in this period), the Haywire is earlier and rounder, while the Domination Focus stores energy longer and delivers more "kick" at the breakpoint. It essentially serves as the more aggressive, more angular complement to pure benchmark balls.
On the Lanes
The Domination Focus is an excellent choice for medium to medium-heavy oil conditions. Its ideal window often starts when pure sanded solids (like a Phaze II or Roto Grip Idol) begin to hook too early or lose energy ("burn up"). The polish lets the Focus get cleanly through played-out heads, but it uses the strength of the R3S Solid cover so it doesn't slide through the midlane. The asymmetric core then provides the torque needed to still drive hard through the pin deck (carry) even with carrydown. It is particularly suited to players who like to open up the lane and want to see a defined break at the end of the oil pattern without giving up the control of a solid ball entirely.
