First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Delirium Shock draws plenty of attention with its bold Yellow and Dark Blue Solid design. At its center sits the proven symmetrical Resurgence core, which carries a 2.460 RG and a 0.043 differential. Wrapped around this core is the Bend-It Solid Reactive coverstock, finished in a dull 500 and 2000 Abralon surface. The extremely low RG gets the core revving up very quickly, which in combination with the rough cover should make the ball grab very early and produce a heavy, strongly rolling motion through the midlane.
Comparison
Compared directly with the Columbia 300 Sideswipe and its clean pearl shell, the Delirium Shock shows a drastically earlier and rounder reaction. Compared with the Storm Phaze II, the Delirium Shock behaves very similarly, though its even lower RG often forces it into the roll phase a touch sooner. Once the transition sets in during a block and friction increases on the outside boards, the strong solid surface of the Delirium Shock loses usable energy. It needs a solid oil base in the heads.
On the Lanes
The Columbia 300 Delirium Shock was developed specifically for heavy to medium oiled lane conditions. It lets you generate the hook you need even on fresh oil to cross boards effectively. The strongly rolling symmetrical core should optimize carry through a steady, heavy entry angle into the pocket. On dry conditions, however, this ball is overqualified; it burns up its energy too early and then misses the pins.
