First Impressions
The Radical Deep Impact, released in February 2026 as part of the "Top Shelf" category, positions itself as a technologically advanced ball for demanding conditions. Visually, the ball stands out with its striking Red, Magenta and Purple color scheme, which shows a particular clarity and translucence thanks to the use of HK22 technology. At the center of the ball sits the proven Torpedo Asymmetric core, which in the 15-pound version delivers a low RG of 2.480, a high differential of 0.052 and an intermediate differential of 0.019. These numbers point to very dynamic rotation, an early revving up and high flare potential. This core is wrapped in the new HK22C+ Hybrid Reactive coverstock. The "C+" stands for "Cohesion Plus," a further development of the chemical composition that should provide more adhesion on the lane. Another key feature is the integration of DynamiCore technology in the outer core. This material is designed to reduce compression at impact, which should increase hitting power in the pocket and improve pin carry as well as the sound at impact. Out of the box, the Deep Impact comes with a 500, 2000 Siaair Micro Pad finish, giving it a dull, tacky texture. The hardness of the material is around 74 Shore D, while oil absorption is rated "medium" from the factory, though in practice it shows fairly quick absorption.
Comparison Within the Radical line, the Deep Impact represents a significant step up in performance over the original Torpedo series. In a direct comparison, the Deep Impact generates roughly 5 to 8 boards more total hook than the original Radical Torpedo and is even 10 to 15 boards above typical benchmark balls. That makes it a considerably more aggressive option for heavier oil conditions. Compared to the Radical Direct Hit, which is known for its slow oil absorption, the Deep Impact as a hybrid offers a more versatile reaction: it also reads the lane early, but responds more quickly to friction at the end of the oil pattern. Compared to the Radical Katana Slash, the Deep Impact shows a similarly heavy roll, but maintains strong continuation without looking "dead." Drawing a comparison to products from other manufacturers, the ball motion is reminiscent of the Maximum Effect from Hammer Bowling, though the overall motion looks somewhat rounder and more controlled. Unlike the Evoke Mayhem from Motiv, the Deep Impact runs visibly cleaner through the heads and feels less "chalky" in surface texture. Compared to very fast balls such as the Black Widow 3.0 from Hammer Bowling, the Deep Impact offers a somewhat smoother tuning, which makes it less prone to overreaction on wet/dry conditions.
On the Lanes On the lane, the Radical Deep Impact is characterized by a very strong, early and continuous motion pattern. Because of the rough 2000 grit factory finish, the ball reads the lane very early and accordingly needs plenty of oil in the heads so it doesn't burn up its energy prematurely. It is therefore designed primarily as the first ball out of the bag on fresh house patterns or higher-volume sport patterns. It forgives mistakes at the release and often generates enough carry even on off-target hits. If you throw the ball fast, the out-of-the-box condition is ideal for creating traction. If you have a higher rev rate or slower speed, however, you may find that the ball rolls too early in factory condition and loses energy. In that scenario the HK22C+ surface responds excellently to adjustments: sanding to 3000 or 4000 grit or polishing helps push the ball longer through the heads and creates a noticeably more angular reaction on the backend. Once the transition sets in and the lane breaks down, the asymmetric core allows you to open up the angles, as long as there is enough oil in the middle of the lane to support the hook. Its strength lies in the combination of safety in oil and a still powerful move through the pocket.
