First Impressions
The DV8 Damn Good Verge comes in an attractive Grape Sparkle color scheme with a special glitter additive in the coverstock. At its heart sits the new Threshold M.D. (Medium Differential) core with a low RG of 2.467" and a reduced differential of 0.037", compared to the 0.049" of the original Verge. The Inciter Max Traction Solid Reactive coverstock arrives out of the box with a 500/1500 Siaair Micro Pad polish. In addition, the ball features Durability Optimization Technology (DOT) and DynamiCore technology, which should provide improved hitting power and durability.
Comparison
The Damn Good Verge is reminiscent of the original Verge Solid, but it is cleaner and longer with noticeably better energy retention through the pins. With a 2.467" RG and a 0.037" differential, its basic numbers are similar to the Hammer Obsession Tour. The medium flare potential makes it more versatile than many comparable benchmark balls and allows for different angles on fresh medium oil patterns. Compared to the DV8 Verge Pearl, it covers roughly 5-8 boards more. Compared to more aggressive balls like the DV8 Medusa or Collision, it offers a more controlled reaction.
On the Lanes
The Damn Good Verge is best suited to medium to heavy oil conditions and appeals to every style of player. It works as a reliable benchmark ball in both league and tournament play, and it should stay usable longer than most benchmark balls. Its versatility shows in the ability to play straight up the boards as well as with opened-up angles, and it handles heavy oil conditions particularly well. The predictable ball motion makes it usable on a variety of lane patterns, and it takes surface changes very well. If you have a medium rev rate and lower ball speed, you'll benefit from its smooth, arcing motion and its adaptability.
