First Impressions
The 900Global Cruise GPT, released in May 2024 as an exclusive "Overseas" edition, marks a technological turning point within the popular Cruise series. Visually, the ball comes in a striking red-silver combination that makes the rotation easy to read on the lane. The heart of this high-performance ball is the new Ellipticon A.I. Asymmetric Core. This is the first time the advanced A.I. (Amplified Inertia) core technology has been used in the Cruise line. Through an optimized mass distribution, this technology allows for more extreme physical numbers. With a 2.48 RG and a very high 0.056 differential (at 15 lbs), the ball is built for maximum flare and dynamics. Especially noteworthy is the exceptionally high intermediate differential of 0.030. That figure sits well above the average of many current asymmetrics and points to a massive imbalance that should produce extremely quick responsiveness to friction. The core is wrapped in the Reserve Blend 90X Pearl Reactive coverstock. The manufacturer describes this coverstock material as particularly absorbent of oil, which despite the pearl blend should provide a certain amount of traction in the oil before the polished Reacta Gloss factory finish takes effect in the backend.
Comparison
In terms of direct placement, the Cruise GPT is best compared to other high-performance pearls that use the A.I. core technology. An obvious comparison is the Harsh Reality Pearl from 900Global. While both balls share asymmetric cores and the A.I. technology, the Cruise GPT differs through its noticeably higher intermediate differential (0.030 versus roughly 0.019 on the Harsh Reality Pearl). This suggests that the Cruise GPT could make an even more drastic change of direction at the breakpoint and react faster to the dry boards than the somewhat more controlled Harsh Reality Pearl. Compared to the Attention Star S2 from Roto Grip, another strong asymmetric pearl, the Cruise GPT should show earlier revving thanks to the Ellipticon A.I. core, while still generating enough length through the heads. Against symmetrical balls like the Sublime from 900Global, the Cruise GPT offers a much more defined move in the pocket and more torque, which makes it the better choice when symmetrical balls enter the pins too flat or wash out.
On the Lanes
The ideal use case for the 900Global Cruise GPT is on patterns with medium to high oil volume that still call for a defined backend motion. Through the combination of the strong 90X Pearl cover and the extremely imbalanced core, the ball works excellently for opening up the lane. You can play deeper lines and send the ball well outside onto the dry boards, trusting that the high intermediate differential will bring it back aggressively to the pocket. The ball should play to its strengths especially during the transition phase, when pure solids (like a Harsh Reality Solid or Eternity Pi) start to lose energy too early. Here the Cruise GPT provides the necessary length through the heads but saves its rotational energy for an explosive hit in the pins. On very dry lanes or short oil patterns, however, the ball is likely to react too strongly given how aggressively it is powered. It is therefore an ideal tool for technical bowlers looking for hook potential without giving up energy transfer at the pin deck.
