First Impressions
Introduced in December 2000, the Visionary Crimson Executioner is an eye-catching ball that comes in a deep, shimmering crimson. Inside works the proven asymmetric Executioner core, which at a reference weight of 15 pounds delivers a 2.540 RG and a significant 0.045 differential. This specific combination of core values is designed to enable a late but all the more dynamic energy release. The cover is a reactive pearl blend polished to a high gloss at the factory with a fine polish. That extremely smooth cover should let the ball build almost no resistance across the first boards and glide through the heads nearly effortlessly. The whole construction aims to conserve as much energy as possible in order to convert it into a very fast, pronounced direction change at the end of the pattern. The manufacturer positions this model as the ideal complement for situations where the lanes have already seen play and you need a ball that won't grab too early but instead combines enormous length with a very sharp back end.
Comparison
Within Visionary's own Executioner line, the Crimson Executioner marks the model with the highest potential for length and the most aggressive direction change. Compared to the later Visionary Charcoal Executioner, which grabs extremely early with its dull solid surface, the pearl version waits considerably longer for its reaction. Looking across manufacturers, the Crimson Executioner shows a ball motion strongly reminiscent of the Storm X-Factor or the Brunswick Zone Classic Pearl. Against the Storm X-Factor, the Visionary Crimson Executioner runs a touch cleaner through the front third of the lane thanks to its specific pearl cover, but develops a similarly explosive hook toward the pins at the breakpoint. Against balls with heavily sanded surfaces that seek early, even traction in oil, the Crimson Executioner creates a much sharper angle, since it reacts extremely sensitively to dry sections of the lane. It doesn't rely on heavy oil volume but explicitly on the friction available at the end of the lane to unfold its asymmetric core dynamics completely.
On the Lanes
The Visionary Crimson Executioner is designed primarily for medium to lighter oil or for play on house shots that have already broken down. When the oil in the front part of the lane keeps thinning out through progressive transition and other balls lose energy too early, the smooth pearl surface plays to its full strengths. It lets you send the ball well outside and carry it cleanly through the dried-out heads without the motion getting unsettled. Once the ball reaches the saving friction at the breakpoint, it should turn sharply and find an ideal entry angle into the pocket with plenty of energy left. If you like playing your equipment with a lot of rotation and using the full width of the lane, you'll benefit enormously from the late but powerful reaction. This ball does carry a potential risk on fresh, very oily patterns or with heavy carrydown, though. With too much oil at the breakpoint, the smooth cover tends to skid across the pattern without effect, so the hook never materializes and the pocket becomes unreachable. Under the right conditions, on the other hand, the late stand-up of the asymmetric core generates outstanding carry, since the steep entry angle and the conserved energy mix the pins optimally. That makes it an excellent specialist for late league games where length and a dynamic direction change are absolutely required.
