BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in June 2017, the 900Global Covert Ops expands the popular Ops series with a powerful solid version for heavier oil conditions. At the heart of this ball sits the legendary Break Asymmetric core, which already caused a stir in the Black Ops. This core stands out with extremely aggressive numbers: at 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.48, while the differential of 0.058 and the intermediate differential of 0.021 are both very high. That combination produces an extremely early revving core and massive flare potential. Wrapped around this technology is the S72 Solid Reactive coverstock. This evolution of the S70 series was chemically adjusted to generate even more traction in oil. Out of the box the ball comes with a 2000 grit Abralon finish, which gives it a dull, black look and signals immediately that this ball was not built to skid, but to grab the lane.
Comparison Compared directly to the 900Global Black Ops, the pearl version built on the same core, the Covert Ops works as the perfect complement for earlier and oilier phases of the game. While the Black Ops is known for its length and its aggressive reaction at the breakpoint, the Covert Ops reads the lane considerably earlier. It gives up the explosive backend motion of the Black Ops in favor of a smoother, more controlled and overall rounder motion, which nevertheless creates noticeably more total hook over the entire length of the lane. Put next to a 2017 competitor such as the Storm Sure Lock, the Covert Ops is similarly dominant in oil, but the Break core gives it a somewhat different character: it often feels a bit more continuous through the pin deck, while the Sure Lock tends to dig in a little earlier. Compared to symmetrical heavyweights like the Storm Phaze II, the asymmetry of the Covert Ops delivers a more defined change of direction and more torque as soon as it reaches friction, which makes it the stronger choice on fresh oil.
On the Lanes The 900Global Covert Ops is clearly designed for medium to heavy oil volumes. It is the ideal choice as the first ball out of the bag on fresh house shots or longer sport patterns, where traction in the heads and through the midlane is decisive. Thanks to the coarse 2000 surface the ball does not "float" over the oil but hooks up reliably with the lane, which prevents it from sliding past the breakpoint. If you throw the ball fast, it is an indispensable tool, since it slows down early enough to transfer energy effectively into the pins. Rev-dominant players benefit from the enormous control the ball offers: it does not jump unpredictably when it hits dry boards, but rolls heavy and full into the pocket. As soon as the lane shows transition and the heads dry up, however, the Covert Ops will lose energy too early; that is the perfect moment to switch to the polished Black Ops or the Honey Badger in order to maintain carry.
