First Impressions
The Columbia 300 Command Solid comes in an eye-catching Sky/Purple/Black color scheme and relies on proven Columbia technology for heavy lane conditions. The Movement Core delivers typical asymmetric properties with a 2.513" RG, a 0.053" total differential and a 0.021" intermediate differential. The A.R.S. (Angular Reaction System) Solid Reactive coverstock arrives with a 500/1500 Siaair Micro Pad surface out of the box. Both components — core and cover — are identical to the Command Pearl version, though the Solid ships without the factory polish.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Columbia 300 Authority Solid, the Command Solid proves noticeably more versatile with a smoother midlane reaction and better continuation. While the Authority goes longer and generates more backend hook, the Command Solid reads the midlane more strongly and offers more continuous hook with better performance in heavier oil. Compared to the Columbia 300 Power Torq, you can play the Command Solid about three boards further right. The similarity to the Roto Grip Hyper Cell is remarkable — both high-performance heavy-oil balls with solid coverstocks and dull surfaces show comparable characteristics, with the Command Solid revving up just slightly earlier.
On the Lanes
The Command Solid was developed specifically for heavy oil conditions and shows its strongest performance there, with a pronounced midlane and backend reaction. On heavy oil patterns the ball impresses with an enormous range of boards, cutting through the oil effortlessly while developing considerable traction along with strong continuation on the backend. You can move well left without the ball losing energy — ideal for league play and fresh medium to heavy oil patterns. Despite being stronger than the Pearl version, it stays controllable and doesn't tend to over-hook. The surface responds very well to adjustments, allowing the ball to be adapted to different conditions and playing styles.
