First Impressions
The DV8 Collision, released in February 2022, marks the introduction of an entirely new core shape for the brand. Visually, the ball comes in a modern, almost futuristic "Black / Pink / Silver" color scheme that jumps out at you on the shelf. Technically, everything revolves around the new Collision Asymmetric Core. For an asymmetric ball, this core has a remarkably low RG of 2.462 (at 15 lbs), which means the ball is set into rotation extremely early. This is combined with a high differential of 0.052 and a strong intermediate differential of 0.019. The cover is the Inciter Max Hybrid Reactive coverstock, finished out of the box with 500/1000/1500 Siaair and Crown Factory Compound. This combination of a very early core and a polished hybrid surface promises an aggressive reaction.
Comparison In direct comparison, the Collision takes a top position in the DV8 lineup, right alongside the dull Hellcat (which came out later). Compared to the DV8 Damn Good Verge (solid), the Collision is noticeably more dynamic off the backend and covers more boards. A very fitting outside comparison is the Roto Grip RST X-2: both balls use a polished hybrid surface over an asymmetric core. The Collision sets itself apart, however, with its significantly lower RG (2.46 vs. 2.53 on the RST X-2). As a result, the Collision revs up noticeably faster and feels more stable through the midlane before it turns the corner at the breakpoint. It looks "heavier" in its motion than an often very snappy Storm Dark Code, but offers more backend movement than a pure control ball.
On the Lanes The DV8 Collision is a prime example of a ball that pairs "length with teeth." Its ideal territory is medium to heavier oil conditions, especially during transition. It's often not the first choice on completely fresh, flat sport oil (a rougher solid would be better there), but as soon as the pocket is somewhat defined, it's a weapon. Because of the extremely low RG, it starts to roll early, which gives it stability in the oil, while the polish (compound) optimizes energy management for the backend. It lets you move your line left and play deeper angles, since the ball reacts quickly to friction thanks to the strong intermediate differential and comes back hard to the pocket. Carry is often explosive due to the steep entry angle and the DynamiCore outer shell.
