BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The DV8 Captiv8, released in February 2023, brings the celebrated HK22 (HyperKinetic22) technology into DV8's mid-performance range for the first time. Visually, the ball shows up in a shiny Gold, Silver and Black Pearl combination. Technically it is built on the new symmetric Captiv8 core, which carries a relatively high RG of 2.532 and a moderate differential of 0.038 (at 15 lbs). Those core numbers clearly point toward length. This core is wrapped in the HK22 - Inciter Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with 500/1000/1500 Siaair and then polished with Crown Factory Compound. These specs produce a ball that glides extremely clean through the heads and saves all of its energy for an explosive reaction at the end of the pattern.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with its predecessor, the **DV8 Activ8** (a hybrid), the Captiv8 shows a noticeably later but far more drastic response to friction. Where the Activ8 read the lane a bit earlier thanks to its hybrid content and came across as rounder, the Captiv8 uses the HK22 base to turn the corner almost aggressively at the breakpoint ("skid-flip"). Compared with the **Brunswick Melee Jab Midnight Blue**, another legendary symmetric pearl ball out of the same plant, the Captiv8 feels quicker and more reactive because of the new chemistry; it changes direction sooner as soon as it senses dry. Against a **Storm Hy-Road Pearl**, the Captiv8 offers comparable length, but at the end of the pattern it often looks a touch sharper in angle, which can improve carry from deeper lines.
On the Lanes
The Captiv8 is the ideal solution for medium to lighter oil conditions and heavily played lanes ("burned heads"). It is specifically designed to ignore the friction in the front part of the lane. When stronger balls (such as the DV8 Collision or Brutal Collision) start up too early and lose energy, the Captiv8 is the perfect switch. It lets you open up your line and throw the ball way out, with the confidence that it will come back lightning fast as soon as it reaches the dry boards on the backend. It is, however, less suited to fresh, heavy oil, where the high RG and the polish would let it skid too far (over-skid). An excellent ball for late league games and tournament blocks.
