First Impressions
The 900 Global Burner Solid comes in an eye-catching orange-teal color combination and uses the proven S62 Solid Reactive coverstock in combination with the new Centroid Symmetric core. The specs show a medium RG of 2.53 and a low differential of 0.037, which delivers controllable and predictable ball reaction. The surface ships from the factory at 1500 grit polished and should therefore provide optimal traction on medium to dry lane conditions. The core was developed specifically to solve the problem many entry-level balls have — with less density in the center, it reduces the over/under reaction typical of this ball category.
Comparison
The cover strengths of all three balls are in the same range — S62 on the Burner, VTC on the Roto Grip Hustle and Reactor on the Storm Electrify. The direct comparison to the Roto Grip Hustle PBR is especially interesting, since the Burner Solid initially brings the Hustle PBR to mind, but it goes farther through the lane and offers more pop at the end. The Burner could serve as a gap filler between the Hustle and IQ lines, since it provides a bit more angle than the IQs and Hustles. The reaction also resembles the Storm Hustle Ink, with the Burner Solid rolling super clean, smooth and continuous drilled pin down. Compared to Raw Hammer balls, the Burner shows a more balanced responsiveness and, thanks to its polished solid surface, gets off the friction more quickly.
On the Lanes
The Burner Solid was developed specifically for medium to light oil conditions and proves to be surprisingly versatile. It's a great first ball if you're starting to learn how to hook the ball, and an excellent ball for speed-deficient or rev-dominant players. In arsenal terms it falls between Mid Control (-) and Mid Late, which makes it an ideal ball for the transition. The Burner Solid has a comfortable length that doesn't overreact to nearby dry, and its smoothness comes across as a kind of early roll with a heavy move to the pocket. If you have a higher rev rate and lower ball speed, you'll especially appreciate the controlled characteristics, while the polished surface works perfectly when you need the length of a pearl but a controlled move at the breakpoint.
