BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Hammer Black Widow Urethane Orange Solid, released in May 2025 as an international release, continues the successful line of urethane Widows. Visually, the ball comes in an extremely eye-catching solid orange that provides outstanding visibility of the ball's path down the lane. Technically, it is based on the proven platform Hammer fans know: inside, the asymmetric Gas Mask core works with a carbon-fiber outer core (DynamiCore). With a 2.50 RG and a 0.058 differential (at 15 lbs), the numbers are identical to the reactive versions, which is exceptional by urethane standards. The cover consists of a solid urethane blend that is sanded rough out of the box (often in the 500/1000 grit range). This combination makes the ball start up extremely early, read the lane immediately, and — thanks to the strong core — develop flare potential well beyond that of conventional urethane balls.
Comparison
Compared to the popular Hammer Purple Hammer Pearl Urethane, the Orange Solid differs massively in core dynamics. While the Purple Hammer has a weaker core and glides gently through the heads, the Black Widow Urethane Orange Solid generates far more track flare through the Gas Mask core and digs into the oil more aggressively. Overall it is stronger and covers more boards than the Purple Hammer. Against a Storm Pitch Black, the Orange Solid looks like an entirely different caliber: the Pitch Black runs very straight and controlled with minimal flare, while the Orange Solid describes a real curve and offers more hook potential. Compared with the Hammer Black Widow 3.0 (reactive solid), the Urethane Orange does roll up similarly early, but at the end of the lane it does not react angularly to the friction — instead it offers the typical smooth urethane arc without overreaction.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Black Widow Urethane Orange Solid is ideal for demanding sport patterns, short oil patterns, or conditions where the heads are very touchy. It gives you the confidence that the ball won't slide uncontrolled through the breakpoint. Because of the core's high differential, the ball retains — unlike weak urethane balls — enough energy and entry angle to achieve good carry even on less than perfect hits. It works excellently for controlling the pocket and eliminating overreaction on dry outside boards. For house patterns with a lot of oil in the middle it is often too dull, but on short tournament lanes it is an absolute weapon, since it closes the gap between "harmless" urethane balls and jumpy reactive balls. The orange color also helps extremely well in reading the rotation and the transition through the heads.
