BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Introduced in September 2026, the Hammer Black Widow Spare+ expands the portfolio with a highly interesting approach by combining a pure polyester coverstock with the asymmetric high-performance Gas Mask core. Visually, the ball presents itself in a striking white pearl design with eye-catching sparkle effects. At 15 pounds, the core features a low RG of 2.500, a very high differential of 0.058, and a mass bias of 0.016. While standard spare balls mostly rely on simple, symmetric pancake cores, the Gas Mask core inside delivers a massive dynamic foundation. The combination of this powerful engine and the low-friction polyester cover is intended to create a unique reaction where the ball glides through the front almost without resistance and only develops a mild but defined hook late in the backend, provided the lanes are sufficiently dry.
Comparative Analysis When looking at conventional spare balls like the Storm Ice or the Brunswick Crown Jewel, the Hammer Black Widow Spare+ reveals a completely different nature. While traditional polyester balls with their neutral cores are designed to slide perfectly straight over oil and friction, the asymmetric Gas Mask core in the Black Widow Spare+ generates noticeable flare potential. Comparing it to urethane-like specialty options meant for drier conditions, such as the Motiv Desert Tank, the Black Widow Spare+ slides even longer and more effortlessly through the front due to its polyester cover, but responds more predictably to friction on extremely dry boards. Compared to entry-level reactive balls like the Storm Tropical Surge, the Black Widow Spare+ requires significantly more friction on the lane to generate motion toward the pocket, but then rolls heavier through the pins thanks to its asymmetric weight distribution.
Practical Application The Hammer Black Widow Spare+ serves a very specific niche and is much more than just a ball for simple spare conversions. For players who struggle to keep the ball on the right side of the lane on extremely dry lane conditions, very short oil patterns, or during late transition, this model offers an excellent solution. The polyester cover prevents the ball from reacting to friction too early, while the dynamic core retains enough energy for proper carry in the backend. For its primary use as a spare ball for corner pins, it requires a slightly firmer and more direct release, as the core can still generate a slight hook at lower speeds with high revs. However, speed-dominant and high-rev players can effectively use it on completely burnt patterns to play a controlled, direct line across the outer boards to the pocket without fearing that the cover will grab too aggressively.
