BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
Released in September 2007, the Hammer Black Widow Clear is fundamentally different from the performance-oriented balls in the legendary Widow series. This is a polyester ball (plastic) designed specifically for a straight path down the lane. Visually, the ball stands out with its transparent shell, in which the iconic black spider logo and the core are visually embedded, giving it a unique 3D look. The surface comes highly polished out of the box to minimize any friction on the lane. Technically, the ball is built so that it generates no flare and the differential is negligible. The goal of this design is maximum length and an absolutely straight path, completely independent of the prevailing oil conditions.
Comparison
Compared to the classic Hammer Black Widow (solid) or Pearl, the Clear behaves in exactly the opposite way. While the reactive models with the Gas Mask Core are known for massive hook and strong direction change in the backend, the Clear has had all aggressiveness removed. It serves as a direct complement, not as competition. Compared to other spare balls such as the Columbia 300 White Dot or the Storm Ice, the Black Widow Clear offers nearly identical motion characteristics: it ignores the lane conditions completely. The difference lies primarily in the aesthetics, since it gives bowlers who already use balls from the Black Widow line the chance to throw at spares with a matching look but functionally neutral behavior.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Black Widow Clear has a clearly defined purpose: precise conversion of single pins and spares. It is the ideal choice for reliably hitting corner pins (such as the 10 pin for right-handers), since it eliminates the risk of the ball turning at the last moment off the friction of the dry outside boards. On top of that, on extremely dry lanes or completely burned-up heads it is often the only option to still find the pocket at all, when even weak urethane or reactive balls hook uncontrollably. It takes the oil pattern completely out of the equation and lets you rely purely on accuracy and speed.
