First Impressions
The Hammer Black Urethane brings an outright legend back in a plain, dull black solid design. At the center works the adapted symmetric LED core, which carries a high 2.650 RG and a minimal 0.015 differential. That core is wrapped in a pure, traditional urethane cover sanded to a dull 500 Abralon finish. These specifications position the ball as the ultimate control specialist. The high-RG core combined with the urethane shell should have the ball start up extremely early while generating almost no dynamic direction change at the breakpoint.
Comparison
Against the Storm Pitch Black, the Hammer Black Urethane behaves extremely similarly and offers excellent control with a very smooth, arcing reaction through the midlane. Compared to any reactive ball such as the Storm Phaze II, the Black Urethane shows a massively weaker total hook. When transition sets in over the course of play, pure urethane pushes the oil down the lane as carrydown rather than absorbing it. Friction on the boards is steadily reduced by this ball, which noticeably dampens subsequent reactive shots.
On the Lanes
The Hammer Black Urethane was developed specifically for extremely short sport patterns or bone-dry lane conditions. It lets you play the far outside boards and choose a very direct line to the pocket without fearing overreaction. The symmetric core should keep the ball pushing continuously through the pin deck. For regular fresh house shots or longer oil distributions, though, this ball is entirely unsuitable, since it lacks all backend dynamics and the entry angle you need.
