The Big Shim comes in a striking Platinum/Blue color scheme and uses an E7 Pearl Reactive coverstock combined with the proven Powder Keg Core. With a 2.468 RG and a 0.040 differential, this symmetrical ball offers a medium flare potential of 3-4 inches. The factory surface is delivered polished at 2000 grit, which gives the ball its characteristic length and controlled backend reaction. As the only ball with an E7 Pearl cover in the current market segment, it holds a special position in the Big Bowling lineup.
Comparison
The Big Shim is the further development of the original Shim with a stronger coverstock formulation. While the standard Shim with P5 Pearl was designed for medium lane conditions, the Big Shim should offer that same predictable ball motion on heavier oil patterns. Compared to the Shim Rekker with its ME6 Solid cover, the Big Shim provides more length thanks to its pearl formulation, while the Rekker grabs earlier and runs more explosively through the pins. The E7 Pearl technology positions it between the more aggressive solid versions like the Storm Phaze II and the smoother pearl options like the Hammer Black Widow Pink Pearl.
On the Lanes
The Big Shim should control flat patterns on fresh lane conditions while providing a smooth transition as they open up. Its predictability and performance across various patterns make it a controlled benchmark ball for a range of conditions. If you have a medium to higher rev rate in particular, you'll benefit from the combination of length and controlled reaction. The stronger cover formulation makes it suitable for oil volumes that would be too heavy for the standard Shim, without giving up control. The polished surface allows you to move boards as friction increases, while the medium differential delivers predictable reactions even at different release angles.
