The Columbia 300 Beast Limited Edition is a historically fascinating evolution of a genuine classic, and it immediately catches the eye with its purple color scheme, accented by a bold orange logo on the surface. This model comes from an era in which particle technology defined the bowling market, and it combines the proven core shape of the Beast series with a considerably more aggressive cover. Inside, the traditional symmetrical Beast core works in its two-piece construction. This weight block features a relatively high RG of about 2.54 along with a moderate differential of 0.033, which in the original series stood for clean length and controlled energy release. The decisive innovation of the Limited Edition, however, lies in the TEC2 Particle Technology used here. This special coverstock comes with a completely matte finish out of the box. The combination of a core that would rather hold onto its energy and a cover that seeks traction extremely early makes this ball something special. The microscopic particles in the surface are specifically designed to cut through the oil in the heads and build up early, very even traction. As a result, the ball should not slide uncontrollably even with a bit more oil volume, but instead enter a very steady and dependable roll phase.

Compared directly with its predecessor, the original Columbia 300 Beast with its highly polished reactive surface, the Limited Edition gets into a reaction much earlier on the lane. The particle cover helps mask small physical inconsistencies at the release and should deliver a high degree of shot repeatability. That said, this historical concept reaches its limits once the transition fully sets in over the course of a tournament or a league session. Because the ball uses up its forward energy relatively early on the lane, it tends to burn up quickly on dried-up conditions. This often results in a flat entry into the pin deck, which noticeably hurts carry. Playing from very deep inside angles is therefore not recommended, since the moderate core cannot generate the lateral force needed to bring the ball back to the pocket effectively from wide lines. It remains an excellent tool for fresh, oily conditions that call for an even, unshakable arc.
