First Impressions
The Storm Axiom Pearl comes in a striking Cobalt, Graphite and Candy Apple color scheme and brings along an unmistakable peppermint scent. The specs show a symmetrical Orbital Core with a low RG of 2.48 at 15 pounds and a differential of 0.050. The new NeX Pearl Reactive coverstock is said to be a further development of the proven NRG technology, and the ball ships from the factory with a 1500-grit polished surface. NeX is considered Storm's earliest-reading cover, with 11% more entry angle and 9.6% more overall hook after 50 shots compared to fresh NRG cover, and it should provide more midlane read without losing backend. For many bowlers, the Axiom Pearl could be what they expected from their Storm Phaze III, since both use low-RG symmetrical cores but different coverstocks. Against the Storm Phaze III, the Axiom Pearl shows an earlier reaction without giving up backend, while in terms of hook potential it resembles a Storm Phaze III, in length it matches a Storm Astro PhysiX, and in backend strength it comes close to a Storm Idol Pearl. Some compare it to the Storm Marvel Pearl, but it feels more like a high-performance Storm MVP Pearl with a similar shape off the dry and a very strong, controllable shape. The Axiom Pearl fits any tournament schedule with patterns of at least 39 feet and medium to medium-heavy oil volume, and it performs best on a variety of medium oil lane conditions. On medium oil patterns, the low-RG core and the more aggressive surface should grab in the midlane without trouble, while the polished factory surface provides moderate length and hold. As the perfect complement to the original Axiom, it allows a nearly identical playing area when the solid becomes too much ball. The ball travels cleanly through the heads, stores tremendous energy and drives through the pins like a truck, and its versatility lets you attack from different positions and bowl an entire league without changing balls.
