First Impressions
Released in June 2025, the Brunswick Attitude Control Black brings back the popular Attitude series, this time in a plain but menacing black look. Technically it's a modern urethane variant developed specifically to close the gap between classic urethane and weak reactive balls. Inside sits the symmetrical Contra core, which at a 2.474 RG and a 0.047 differential (at 15 lbs) is unusually dynamic by urethane standards. That engine is paired with the Urethane Pearl coverstock, finished out of the box with a coarse 500/1000 Siaair Micro Pad. This combination makes the ball read extremely early, but the strong core generates more flare than traditional urethane balls. Visually, the deep black looks very serious on the lane and makes it easier to read the ball motion in the oil.
Comparison
Compared to the legendary Purple Hammer Pearl Urethane, the Attitude Control Black shows noticeably higher flare potential thanks to its more dynamic Contra core. That means it still offers the typical early urethane motion, but unlike the Purple Hammer, which often runs very smooth and almost straight through the pins, it retains a bit more energy and change of direction in the backend. Against the Storm Pitch Black the difference is even more pronounced: where the Pitch Black creates very little flare and is extremely controllable, the Attitude Control Black covers more boards and can also be played when you have to open up the pocket a little. Compared to the original red Attitude Control it behaves almost identically, though the black pigmentation often produces a minimally earlier start down the lane. It's stronger than a simple polyester ball, but clearly earlier and smoother than an entry-level reactive ball like the Brunswick Rhino.
On the Lanes
The Brunswick Attitude Control Black is the perfect choice for demanding sport patterns, short oil patterns or extremely dry lanes where reactive balls react too jumpy. Through the combination of a tacky surface and a strong core, it gives you the traction you need not to slide through the breakpoint if you throw the ball fast. At the same time, if you have a lower rev rate you'll benefit from the high differential, since the ball does more work than classic urethane balls and therefore improves carry. It's ideal for controlling the friction out on the edge of the lane and getting an absolutely predictable reaction. As soon as there's a lot of oil in the front part of the lane, however, or you have to play deep inside, you should switch to a stronger reactive ball, since the urethane could then lack the power to drive through the pins.
