First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Spot (released May 2024) makes a striking visual impression in a color combination of Orchid, Carbon and Midnight Black. As an international release that has found its way into many global pro shops, this ball combines proven high-performance technology with new specs. At the heart of the ball works the asymmetric Momentous™ core, which in this configuration shows an RG of 2.50 (at 15 lbs) and a high differential of 0.053. This sets it slightly apart from other balls in the line by increasing torque.

Wrapped around this core is the high-performance MicroTrax™ Pearl Reactive coverstock. This is a significant technical decision, since MicroTrax chemistry is known for greater oil displacement than weaker pearl blends (such as eTrax). Out of the box, the ball comes with a 1500-grit polished finish (often referred to as Reacta Gloss), which helps it glide cleanly through the heads, while the strong chemical additives in the cover should provide traction in the midlane. The combination of a slightly higher RG and a very strong pearl cover points to a ball that generates length without "swimming" in the oil.
Comparison
In a direct comparison with Roto Grip's popular Attention Star (released early 2024), the Attention Spot positions itself as the chemically stronger option. Where the Attention Star, with its eTrax™ Plus Pearl cover and lower RG (2.48), is known for rolling earlier while reacting more quickly to friction, the Attention Spot uses the more aggressive MicroTrax™ Pearl shell. That means the Spot should be able to handle a bit more oil than the Star.

Compared to a Roto Grip Exotic Gem (also MicroTrax Pearl), the Attention Spot offers more length thanks to the Momentous™ core (RG 2.50) than the extremely early-rolling Defiant™ LRG core (RG 2.47) in the Gem. It therefore acts as a bridge: it offers more grab in the oil than a Roto Grip Idol Pearl or Attention Star, but is cleaner through the heads than the massive "snowplows" like the Gem or Harsh Reality. Compared to Storm products, you could draw parallels to the Storm Phaze AI, though the Spot's asymmetric core should deliver a more defined change of direction at the breakpoint.
On the Lanes
The Attention Spot is ideally designed for medium to heavy oil conditions, where a pure solid ball loses energy too early but a weaker pearl ball (like a Hustle or Hyped) would skate over the oil. With its high 0.053 differential, the ball creates a lot of flare, which exposes fresh cover to the lane and thus maintains traction with every revolution.

If you throw the ball fast (speed dominant), the MicroTrax additive gives you the necessary security that the ball will still make its move in time even with carrydown. Rev-dominant players (lots of rotation) will appreciate that the slightly higher RG holds the ball in the track long enough before it releases its energy in the pocket. The typical motion pattern is not the extremely abrupt skid-flip, but rather a strong yet controllable arc ("strong arc" with bite). It is particularly effective during the transition phase, when the heads start to dry up but you still need enough power in the deep oil line to carry the corner pins.
