First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Scarlet is an overseas release from May 2023 that continues the popular Attention series. Visually, the ball stands out with its deep, rich red, which looks very present on the lane. Technically, Roto Grip relies here on the proven combination of the asymmetric Momentous Core and an aggressive pearl shell. The core delivers strong numbers with a 2.50 RG and a 0.053 differential (at 15 lbs), which produce plenty of flare potential. This engine is wrapped in the Hyper Response Pearl Reactive coverstock, finished at the factory with Reacta Gloss. This pairing immediately points to a ball that glides extremely cleanly through the heads and saves its energy for an explosive reaction at the end of the oil pattern.
Comparison
Compared to the Roto Grip Exotic Gem, which is also an asymmetric pearl option in the lineup, the Attention Scarlet responds noticeably faster to friction. The Exotic Gem uses the MicroTrax Pearl cover, which offers a bit more traction in oil and therefore looks rounder. The Scarlet, on the other hand, with its Hyper Response Pearl cover, behaves more "temperamental" and more angular: it skids farther and turns more sharply. Against a symmetric ball like the Storm Phaze V, the Attention Scarlet offers a more defined kick at the breakpoint thanks to its asymmetric core (Momentous) and stands up faster, which helps it drive powerfully through the pocket even at steep entry angles.
On the Lanes
This ball is specialized for medium oil patterns and situations where the lane has already broken down (transition). Its greatest strength is generating length while still producing a strong backend hook. It is the ideal choice when benchmark balls start rolling too early and burning up energy. With the Attention Scarlet you can move farther inside and throw into the dry boards on the outside, knowing that the ball stores enough energy to come back. For fresh, heavy oil conditions it is less suited because of the polished surface, since it can tend toward over/under reactions there. It shines where skid and a hard change of direction are called for.
