First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Red Pearl, released in October 2022 as an international release, catches the eye with its striking three-tone Fire Red Pearl color scheme. Technically, the ball is built on the proven asymmetric Momentous core, which in this weight range is specified with a 2.50 RG, a 0.053 differential and a 0.011 intermediate differential. These numbers promise strong torque and plenty of flare potential. The core is wrapped in the Hyper Response Pearl Reactive coverstock. One decisive detail for a pearl ball is the factory surface here: unlike many shiny pearls, this ball often ships with a 2000-grit Abralon finish. That gives the surface a microscopic roughness that builds traction early in the heads instead of skidding endlessly. The combination of aggressive cover and strong core points to a ball reaction that, while classified as a pearl, still has enough bite in oil to avoid sliding past the breakpoint.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Roto Grip Attention Black Pearl, the Red Pearl reads the lane noticeably earlier. Where the Black Pearl clears the heads effortlessly thanks to its typically polished surface and generates a sharp change of direction off the friction, the Attention Red Pearl comes across as more controlled and rounder. It combines the length of a pearl cover with the stability of a solid. Bringing the Storm Phaze V into the comparison, the Attention Red Pearl offers considerably more overall hook and a stronger stand-up in the pocket thanks to its asymmetric core. Against a pure heavy-oil monster like the Roto Grip Gem, however, the Red Pearl works a bit cleaner through the first few meters and saves more energy for the backend, which makes it a versatile step below the strongest balls in the bag.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Attention Red Pearl is most at home on medium to fairly oily lane conditions. Because of the 2000-grit surface, it needs some oil in the heads so it doesn't lose energy too early. It's ideal if you have to manage the move from a freshly oiled pattern into transition and want a ball that crosses the boards reliably without reacting too jumpy. Once the lane starts to break down, the Hyper Response coverstock allows deeper angles to be played, while the Momentous core makes sure the ball still produces enough carry even from wide lines. For tournament players, this is an excellent option for opening up the pocket when symmetrical balls don't create enough angle but pure solids roll too early. It provides a dependable motion that is more forgiving of ball speed mistakes than extremely polished skid-flip balls.
