First Impressions
The Roto Grip Attention Power, released in April 2025 as an exclusive international release (Overseas), adds a powerful piece to the high-performance series. Technically, this ball is built on the proven asymmetric Momentous AV core, now equipped with the modern A.I. Core Technology (RG approx. 2.48, diff approx. 0.049 at 15 lbs). This A.I. enhancement optimizes energy transfer at the pin deck. The decisive upgrade is the cover: here the MicroTrax Plus Solid Reactive surface comes into play. This chemically aggressive formulation provides considerably more traction in oil than the pearl versions in the series. Interestingly, the ball is offered in many markets with a "Polished Solid" finish (e.g. 1500-grit polish), which creates a unique reaction: the ball glides cleanly through the heads, but thanks to the solid base it reads the midlane earlier than a pearl and delivers a controllable yet powerful hook on the backend.
Comparison
Compared directly to the enormously popular Roto Grip Attention Star (Pearl), the Attention Power gets into a read earlier and moves in a rounder shape. While the Attention Star often runs long and then turns abruptly (skid/flip), the Attention Power uses the chemical friction of the solid shell to start the braking phase earlier, which makes it less prone to over/under reactions. A good reference ball is the Roto Grip Gem: the Gem (MicroTrax Solid, matte) is a "snowplow" that rolls extremely early and shows little backend. The Attention Power, by contrast, is cleaner through the heads and retains more energy for the hit, so it comes across as more dynamic than the Gem. Against a Storm Summit World, the Attention Power offers a quicker rev-up and more defined direction changes thanks to the asymmetric Momentous core, while the Summit radiates more of a steady, symmetrical calm.
On the Lanes
The Roto Grip Attention Power is the ideal choice for medium to heavy oil volumes, especially if you're looking for a reaction that bridges the gap between "tank" balls (like the Gem or Harsh Reality) and quick pearl balls. It works excellently as a first ball in league play, when the heads still hold oil but you already need a reliable entry angle on the backend. Thanks to the A.I. technology, carry is above average even on slight misses into the pocket. When the ball is polished, it's a weapon for the transition phase: it doesn't slide through the carrydown, but it also doesn't react too hectically to dry boards. If more traction is needed, the surface can easily be scuffed up with an Abralon pad (e.g. 2000 grit) to turn it into an "oil monster."
