First Impressions
Released in June 2018 as an international release (overseas), the Track Alias Xpress is the dynamic answer to the original Alias model. While the original Alias (Prime Hybrid, matte) was built for heavy oil and traction, the Xpress was designed to shine once the heads start to dry up. Inside works the technologically unique Alias core. What makes this core special is its extreme versatility: depending on the drilling, it can act either as a symmetrical core (for control) or as a strongly asymmetrical core (for angle). For the Xpress, this core was paired with a shiny pearl reactive coverstock (often based on the QR series). The design is usually flashier and brighter than on the matte original, which underscores the focus on speed and energy retention.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Track Alias, the Alias Xpress is noticeably "faster." The original Alias digs into the lane early and rolls heavy; the Xpress, on the other hand, glides effortlessly over the oil ("skid") and reacts much more aggressively at the breakpoint. The name "Xpress" says it all here: it gets the ball through the heads quickly and delivers an explosive change of direction at the end. Compared to the Track Kinetic Amethyst (which is also polished), the Alias Xpress offers more overall power and flare potential thanks to the stronger Alias core. It is essentially a high-performance pearl ball, while the Kinetic sits more in the mid-performance range. It fills the gap that opens up when the regular Alias rolls too early but you don't want to give up the strong hit of the big core.
On the Lanes
The Track Alias Xpress is a perfect ball for medium oil patterns and the second half of a tournament block. If you started with the original Alias and notice that it's beginning to lose energy or hit "flat," moving to the Xpress is the logical step. You can keep moving left, send the ball through the dry heads and rely on the Alias core to develop enough torque at the end of the lane to take out the corner pins. Thanks to the unique drilling options of the Alias core, this ball can also be fine-tuned: drill it "asymmetrically" to create an extreme hook ("hockey stick"), or "symmetrically" to have one of the strongest yet most controllable pearl balls on the market.
