First Impressions
The Storm Absolute Reign, released in January 2026 as an exclusive international edition, adds an exciting variation to the successful Premier line. Visually, the ball often shows up in a dark, saturated color scheme that looks extremely classy thanks to the factory "Power Edge" polish finish. At the center works the technologically advanced Sentinel Core. This asymmetric core is known for its unique shape without an external "slug" and delivers a low 2.48 RG, a high 0.050 differential and a 0.021 intermediate differential at 15 lbs. What makes this ball special is the cover: Storm combines the grabby R2S Deep Solid Reactive coverstock (known from the Absolute Power) with a high-gloss polish here. This mix of a solid chemical base and a smooth surface promises a fascinating combination of traction and length.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Storm Absolute Power, which uses the same R2S Deep Solid cover but comes dull (4000 grit), the Absolute Reign travels considerably longer through the heads. Where the Power reads early and rolls smooth, the Reign skids through the heads and stores its energy for a more explosive backend. Set next to the original Storm Absolute (hybrid cover), the Reign offers a slightly more stable reaction in oil thanks to the solid base, but responds to friction just as sharply thanks to the polish. It positions itself right between those two: more controllable than the hybrid on wet/dry, but noticeably livelier and more angular than the dull Power. Against a Storm Virtual Energy Blackout, the Absolute Reign often appears to get into rotation a bit earlier, but offers a comparable move at the end.
On the Lanes
The Absolute Reign is a phenomenal choice for medium to heavy oil once the lane starts to open up. It's the ideal "transition killer." When pure dull solids jump too early and lose energy, but pearls still react too sensitively (skid too much), the Absolute Reign's moment has come. The solid base lets it "see" the oil in the middle better than a pearl, yet the Power Edge finish gets it cleanly through the broken-down heads. It lets you play deeper angles and open up the pocket wide without losing contact with the lane. Especially on patterns that get erratic as they break down ("cliffed"), the combination of the Sentinel core and the polished solid cover provides outstanding forgiveness.
