First Impressions
The Ebonite The One Reverb was introduced in September 2024 as the third ball in the successful The One series since Ebonite International's production move to Brunswick, and it shows up in a striking color combination of teal, black and red. At the center works the proven Centrex Symmetrical Mass Bias core, which despite its "symmetrical" designation has pronounced asymmetric properties – a core shape considered one of the most successful in Ebonite history. With an RG of 2.466, a high differential of 0.056 and a substantial intermediate differential (mass bias) of 0.027 (each at 15 lbs), the ball should generate high flare potential and strong hook. The cover is the HK22C - GB 15.1 Pearl coverstock, which for the first time in the The One series combines the Cohesion additive with HK22 and Game Breaker additives. The factory surface prep of 500, 1000, 1500 Siaair plus Factory Compound gives the ball a polished finish that should deliver maximum length and the hardest backend reaction within the entire The One series. Like all modern Ebonite balls, The One Reverb also features DynamiCore technology for improved durability and hitting power, as well as DOT (Durability Optimization Technology), which allows more flexible drilling options without regard to the position of the locator pin.
Comparison
The One Reverb positions itself as the most angular ball within Ebonite's The One series. All three balls in the series since the production move use the identical Centrex Symmetrical Mass Bias core, but differ in coverstock and surface prep. The Ebonite The One Remix used the GB 14.4 Solid coverstock with Factory Compound, while the Ebonite The One Encore used the HK22-based version of GB 14.4 Hybrid with 4000 SiaAir. The One Reverb now uses an HK22C variant of GB 15.1 Pearl, also finished with Factory Compound. This coverstock combination allows more angularity and more overall hook than the two predecessors. Despite the more aggressive cover, the Factory Compound finish keeps the ball from reaching the overall hook of the Ebonite Game Breaker 5 or the Ebonite Crusher. Compared to The One Remix, The One Reverb shows about 2-3 feet more length at similar overall hook, plus noticeably more traction in the midlane. Against the Ebonite Crusher, which is designed for heavy oil and needs less oil, The One Reverb is ideal for situations in which asymmetric solid balls are too strong. The pearl cover ensures cleaner push through the midlane than solid or hybrid versions.
On the Lanes
The Ebonite The One Reverb was developed for medium to heavy oil conditions and shows its strengths especially on medium oil patterns. For strokers, the ball offers exceptional downlane motion and versatility on the right side of the lane. With firmer speed and straighter angles over the ninth board, the box surface allows the ball to get to the breakpoint with a strong move to the pocket. Alternatively, you can move your feet in, reduce speed and take the ball out to board seven at the breakpoint while maintaining the same miss room and pin carry. The optimal strategy is to start farther right and develop a larger friction window in the track zone, which gives you more room for error when you migrate left during the transition. The low RG of 2.466 allows an earlier roll-up than many other pearl balls, while the polished surface still guarantees sufficient length. If you're speed-dominant, The One Reverb could serve as the top ball in your bag. As a tournament ball, The One Reverb fits especially well after the transition, once bigger covers have already worked the lane. The combination of a large asymmetric core and the innovative coverstock with Cohesion additive produces impressive track flare and powerful hook while remaining controllable. Surface adjustments can optimize the performance further – some users report that slight surface changes transform the ball from good to indispensable.
