The Roto Grip X-Cell Tour is an international release from October 2024 and presents itself as the pearl version of the successful X-Cell series. With its Hyper-Response Pearl reactive cover, the ball combines the legendary Nucleus + A.I. Core technology with a 1500-grit polished surface. The specs show an RG of 2.50 (15 lbs) with a differential of 0.056 and an intermediate differential of 0.019, which is typical for an asymmetric core. The Hyper-Response Pearl was developed as one of the strongest pearl coverstocks and, despite its pearlized nature, should offer pronounced friction characteristics. The asymmetric Nucleus core with A.I. technology promises particular forgiveness across all playing styles thanks to its characteristic cube design. The A.I. Core technology allows for improved energy transfer from the core to the cover and should thereby deliver increased pin carry.
Comparison
The X-Cell Tour positions itself as the cleaner, longer alternative to the solid X-Cell from Roto Grip, which is equipped with the eTrax ULTRA solid cover. While the solid X-Cell was designed for heavy oil volumes, the Tour version targets medium to medium-heavy lane conditions through its pearlized surface. Within the Roto Grip product family, the X-Cell Tour uses the same Hyper-Response Pearl cover as the Attention Black Pearl from Roto Grip, though with the Nucleus core instead of the Momentous core. In terms of specifications, the ball closely resembles the Storm Iconic Code, Storm Code Master and Storm Critical Code, which are all also offered with a 2.50 RG, a similar differential and a 1500-grit polish, but are equipped with different pearl coverstocks and the RAD4 core. The combination of an oil-resistant pearl cover and the Nucleus core, known for its forgiveness, should give the ball broader usability across various lane conditions than many comparable asymmetric pearl balls.

The X-Cell Tour suits bowlers looking for a controlled yet dynamic ball for medium oil volumes. The 1500-grit polished surface allows good length through the heads and the middle third of the lane, while the asymmetric core should provide a defined transition at the breakpoint. The ball motion presents itself as a continuous roll with a sharp backend reaction, though the sharpness should remain controllable despite the strong change of direction. For strokers, the A.I. Core technology promises additional carry even at less than optimal entry angles, while power players should benefit from the ball's ability to generate length without burning up too early. The versatility of the X-Cell Tour shows in its relative insensitivity to lane transition — it should work consistently on slightly varying oil volumes from the heads to the middle of the lane. If the reaction is too long, the surface can be adjusted by dulling it to create more traction in the midlane. The ball should be particularly well suited as a step-down option from the solid X-Cell when the lanes break down or more backend reaction is needed, while its forgiveness could also let it serve as a versatile benchmark ball for medium conditions.
