First Impressions
The Pyramid Power Moon is a limited International Release, originally produced for the Korean market and available in the US in just 250 pieces. This ball is a special addition to the Moon series, combining proven technology with a new look and ball reaction. At the center works the SG 19.5 Dual Density Asymmetric Core with a medium RG of 2.499, a differential of 0.048 and an MB differential of 0.020, which yields medium to high flare potential. This asymmetric core construction should deliver a powerful and consistent ball motion with efficient energy transfer to the pins. The cover is a matte version of the XF Gravitational Hybrid reactive coverstock, which comes at 2000 grit Abralon out of the box. This combination promises clean heads with a smooth push through the midlane and aggressive motion at the breakpoint.
Comparison Within the Pyramid Moon series, the Power Moon positions itself as an alternative to the Blood Moon Rising from Pyramid. While the Blood Moon Rising is fitted with the GPS Navigational Hybrid coverstock and is known for an earlier midlane reaction, the Power Moon should offer a longer and cleaner look through the heads thanks to its XF Gravitational Hybrid cover. Compared to the Supermoon from Pyramid, which stands for a more controlled ball motion with its GPS Navigational ATK coverstock and factory finish polish, the Power Moon provides more friction in the midlane with its matte surface while still keeping a strong backend. The SG 19.5 Dual Density Asymmetric Core used here is the same one already found in the Divergent Path line and other Moon models, distinguished by its combination of low RG and medium differential. The XF Gravitational Hybrid coverstock technology is also found in the Pyramid Fortress Hybrid, where it is used for extended length together with aggressive midlane motion.
On the Lanes The Power Moon is primarily designed for medium to medium-heavy oil conditions. The 2000 grit Abralon surface allows a clean push through the heads and stores energy for an angular backend reaction. If you have higher torque, you could benefit from the asymmetric core construction, which promises a controllable but powerful motion pattern. The matte hybrid cover should prove versatile and, with surface adjustments, could work on slightly drier as well as heavier conditions. The ball is potentially a strong option if you are looking for a ball with good length and an aggressive but controllable finish. The combination of a medium RG and a 0.048 differential points to a reaction that comes neither too early nor too late. If you already throw the Blood Moon Rising, the Power Moon could be a more valuable addition when drier areas or longer patterns call for cleaner heads.
