BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The Storm Phaze II Pearl comes in an eye-catching color scheme of bright blue, rich red and deep purple, finished off with gold lettering. After nearly ten years in which the original Phaze II served as the benchmark for symmetrical performance on medium to heavy oil conditions, this pearl version closes the gap between the original Phaze II Solid and the IQ Tour series within Storm's Master Line. The ball uses the proven Velocity Core with a 2.48 RG and a 0.051 differential, which should produce an early revving motion with a controlled backend. What sets this ball apart is its upgraded TX-25 Pearl Reactive coverstock, refined through extensive testing and stronger than the original TX-16 Solid of the classic Phaze II. With a Power Edge polish and a surface roughness of roughly 5500 grit, the ball combines length through the front part of the lane with an energetic backend reaction. The Velocity Core is meant to deliver a predictable ball reaction that pairs early rotation with an assertive but controllable backend move. The color scheme and the signature Frosted Cinnamon Roll scent round out the package.

Comparison
Compared directly to the Roto Grip Rock Star Amped, the Phaze II Pearl is the stronger ball with more overall hook potential. While both balls share the same core characteristics with a 2.48 RG and a 0.050 and 0.051 differential respectively, they differ clearly in coverstock technology. The Rock Star Amped with its NanoStar Pearl coverstock offers more length and a sharper backend reaction, while the Phaze II Pearl grabs earlier thanks to its TX-25 Pearl coverstock and should generate more continuous midlane traction. That makes the Storm the ball with more overall motion, one that could be played about two to three boards further left than the Rock Star Amped. Against the 900 Global Ember, which also sits in the symmetrical pearl segment, the Phaze II Pearl positions itself as the more aggressive option. The Ember with its lower differential reads the lane later and shows a more pronounced sideways move off the backend, while the Phaze II Pearl reacts earlier and should make a rounder, more powerful overall move. Within the Storm lineup, the Phaze II Pearl fills the niche between the stronger Phaze II Solid and the cleaner-through-the-front balls of the IQ Tour series. Compared to a Storm IQ Tour, the Phaze II Pearl offers considerably more hook potential and an earlier read of the lane, while retaining the forgiveness of symmetrical cores. Compared to the 900 Global Zen 25, another strong symmetrical pearl, the Phaze II Pearl shows comparable strength with subtle differences in backend character, with the Storm expected to be somewhat more controlled and predictable.

On the Lanes
The Storm Phaze II Pearl should be ideal for medium to medium-heavy oil conditions, and it could play to its strengths especially on fresh lanes and into the transition phase. If you have a medium to higher rev rate, the ball gives you the option of playing further inside and still finding your way back to the pocket reliably. The combination of the Velocity Core's early revving motion and the responsive TX-25 Pearl surface should create a balanced reaction that neither quits too early nor gets uncontrollable off the backend. If you have moderate ball speed, you'll likely benefit from the forgiveness of the symmetrical core, while power players should be able to use the ball by cutting harder across the lane without it burning up too early. If needed, the surface can be adjusted by dulling it with Abralon to 2000 or 3000 grit to create more traction in the midlane on heavier oil patterns. Conversely, refreshing the polish could extend length on lighter conditions or in later games. In a bowling arsenal, the Phaze II Pearl typically slots in as a second or third ball when asymmetrical high-performance balls read too early or create too much motion. It fills the important gap between aggressive first-ball options and the cleaner-through-the-front choices for broken-down conditions. The signature "go ball" quality the Phaze series is known for should carry over to this pearl version as well — predictable, dependable and consistent across a range of lane conditions. If you already have a Phaze II Solid in the bag, the Pearl is the ideal complement for situations that call for more length and backend reaction without giving up the proven Velocity Core character.
