BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The MOTIV Ascend presents itself as a well-thought-out entry-level bowling ball that should serve both newcomers and experienced players well in specific situations. Visually, the ball impresses with four attractive color options, with the yellow-blue version with green accents deserving special mention. The high-quality workmanship and modern design convey the quality one has come to expect from MOTIV right from the first impression. Technically, the Ascend is based on the Flux V2 Core, a symmetrical weight block with a remarkably high RG of 2.59 in 15 pounds and a low maximum differential of 0.023. This combination should deliver more length and a delayed but still controlled reaction. The Vitality Pearl Reactive coverstock comes out of the box with a 5500 grit Laser Scanning Polish surface and promises a clean passage through the oil while providing sufficient friction in the backend. The technical ratings speak a clear language: with a length rating of 80, a backend value of 70 and a hook potential of 35, the Ascend clearly positions itself in the lower performance range, which matches its role as an entry-level ball. The flare potential of over 2 inches nevertheless points to sufficient track flare, which could provide adequate carry characteristics.

Comparison
Compared directly to its stablemate, the MOTIV Max Thrill Hybrid, the Ascend shows a distinctly different motion pattern. While the Max Thrill has an earlier and sharper reaction, the Ascend presents itself as the calmer partner with a longer and more even motion. This characteristic makes it an interesting alternative for situations in which the Max Thrill would react too aggressively. Against established entry-level competitors such as the Brunswick Rhino or the Storm Tropical series, the Ascend should offer a noticeable performance advantage thanks to its reactive coverstock and full-fledged weight block. Practical experience confirms that the ball develops more hook potential than originally expected, which sets it clearly apart from classic plastic balls or simpler polyurethane constructions. Particularly noteworthy is its versatility with regard to different surface preparations. Various grit levels from 1000 to 3000 make clear that the ball works best with less aggressive surfaces. The factory polish or a 3000 grit finish seem to provide the optimal balance between length and backend reaction.

On the Lanes
The Ascend shows its strengths mainly on house shots and in situations with moderate to light oil volume. For beginners it offers the ideal entry into the world of reactive bowling without overwhelming them with excessive aggression. The high RG also allows bowlers with a lower rev rate to control the ball successfully, while the reactive cover can still provide enough hook for spectacular strikes. Experienced bowlers might value the Ascend as a useful spare ball or for the later blocks of a tournament, when the lanes have dried up and aggressive balls grab too early. Its ability to be played both from the right with straighter angles and from the left with more rotation makes it a versatile tool in the arsenal. The low price point makes the Ascend an attractive option for bowling centers that want to give their customers access to performance-oriented bowling. At the same time, it offers enough quality and durability to serve as a long-term solution as well. For optimal results, the ball should be played with moderate speed and controlled rotation. Practical use shows that with too aggressive a delivery it tends to grab too early, or with imprecise execution fails to build up enough energy for a strong transition. It shows its true qualities with precise, consistent execution and a willingness to adapt your game to its characteristic properties. The MOTIV Ascend thus establishes itself as a solid representative of its category, one that both eases the entry into reactive bowling and can serve experienced players well in specific situations.
