BOWLING BALL INFOS

First Impressions
The ION Pro Solid comes in an elegant Capri Blue with gold accents and an unusual blueberry donut scent. As a further development of the successful ION Pro Hybrid, Storm relies on proven technology in a new configuration. At its heart sits the asymmetric Element Tour A.I. Core with a 2.47 RG, a 0.035 differential and an intermediate differential of 0.014 in 15 pounds. These specs point to moderate flare characteristics and controlled reaction. The coverstock choice is particularly noteworthy: the ION Pro Solid uses the proven TX-16 Solid material, known from Storm's Phase II, but with a Power Edge polish out of the box. This surface treatment gives the ball more length and should deliver a more pronounced hook on the backend. Hardness is listed at 74, while absorption is rated as fast, which suggests a responsive cover.

Comparison
In a direct comparison with the ION Pro Hybrid, the Solid proves to be the cleaner version through the fronts. Where the Hybrid starts to grab earlier, the Solid glides more effortlessly through the heads and saves energy for the backend. That characteristic makes it especially valuable on older or broken-down lanes where the front part already shows friction. Against Storm's Phase II, the ION Pro Solid positions itself as the longer alternative. The Phase II with its standard 2000 surface grabs noticeably earlier and offers more control on fresh patterns, while the ION Pro Solid gets more length from its polish and can create sharper angles on the backend. The asymmetric core configuration also allows for more varied drilling options than symmetric benchmark balls. Its placement relative to other medium benchmark balls such as the Roto Grip Idol is interesting as well. The ION Pro Solid should stand out for its ability to still generate enough hook at lower speed while staying controllable at higher speeds.

On the Lanes
The ION Pro Solid should work as a versatile benchmark ball for a range of player types. If you have a higher rev rate, it could give you the length you need without burning up too early, while bowlers with moderate rev rates should benefit from its ability to still generate backend reaction on slower shots. The Power Edge surface makes the ball particularly interesting on lanes with more pronounced wet-dry conditions. Here it should be able to smooth out the transitions without losing sharpness on the backend. Tests on various patterns suggest the ball could play to its strengths in transition conditions, when other balls grab too early or react too late. Surface adjustments open up additional applications. At 2000 grit the ball develops more midlane read and can reach earlier hook points, while polished it should retain its strengths in length and backend hook. This versatility makes it an interesting arsenal piece for tournament players. For league bowlers, the ION Pro Solid could show its qualities especially on medium to longer house patterns, where its ability to change direction late while staying controlled is called for. The combination of the proven TX-16 coverstock and an asymmetric core promises the versatility needed for changing lane conditions over longer sessions. The ball positions itself as a modern interpretation of the benchmark concept, one meant to adapt to the realities of today's lane surfaces without neglecting the fundamental properties of a dependable all-around ball.
