First Impressions
The Hammer Special Effect represents the next evolution in Hammer's successful Effect series. With its eye-catching color combination of purple, red and black plus fine glitter particles, it makes a strong visual impression on the lane and on the shelf. At the center of this high-performance ball works the proven asymmetric Huntsman core with impressive numbers: at 15 pounds it carries an RG of 2.470, a differential of 0.050 and an intermediate differential of 0.017. This core geometry promotes an early, powerful roll with high flare potential. The core is wrapped in the HK22-Cohesion Solid Reactive coverstock, which is finished at the factory with a 500/1000/1500 Siaair surface followed by Factory Compound polish. This unusual combination of a solid coverstock with polish creates a distinctive reaction profile that pairs stability with versatility. The ball gives off a light citrus scent, the signature characteristic of the Cohesion formulation.

Comparison
Compared to the original Hammer Effect, which uses a pearl coverstock, the Special Effect shows a somewhat earlier onset of hook and a more continuous motion. While the original Effect is known for its pronounced length and abrupt change of direction, the Special Effect offers a more balanced reaction that is easier to control without giving up hitting power. The Special Effect positions itself strategically between the original Effect and the Effect Tour. Unlike the Effect Tour, which uses a modified core for a controlled motion, the Special Effect keeps the full Huntsman core but delivers its own reaction profile through the polished solid coverstock. That profile is characterized by moderate length, strong midlane presence and a continuous but powerful backend reaction. The polished surface allows the ball to glide cleanly through the front part of the lane despite its solid coverstock base, without losing energy too early. This sets it apart from many other solid bowling balls, which often grab too early and can therefore lose effectiveness on oil conditions with longer oil applications.

On the Lanes
The Hammer Special Effect proves to be an exceptionally versatile ball for medium to heavy oil conditions. The combination of the responsive core and the polished solid coverstock allows a broad range of use — on fresh oil as well as through light transition phases. If you throw at medium to high speed with moderate torque, you'll benefit from the ball's ability to glide easily through the heads and then develop a strong, continuous motion in the midlane. On the right line it creates an impressive entry angle that delivers maximum pin action and excellent carry. Particularly notable is its versatility from different playing positions. The ball can be played straight up as well as with a big angle, and it holds on to its hook potential across different rev rates and speeds. The polished surface also offers a certain amount of forgiveness — even when the ball gets too far outside, it reliably finds its way back to the pocket. The Hammer Special Effect also tolerates heavier lane transition, and it can be made even more aggressive with a simple surface adjustment (removing the polish). In its stock configuration, however, it already offers the perfect balance of length, control and powerful backend motion, which makes it a key piece for advanced bowlers looking for versatility on medium to heavy oil conditions.
