First Impressions
The AMF Great Escape stands out with its dynamic teal, black and orange color blend. At the heart of this model works the CFT Asymmetric Core, which features a low RG of 2.480 and a strong differential of 0.051. The coverstock is the F80 Solid Reactive cover, finished out of the box with a special nEat finish. This combination of a strong asymmetric core and a grabby finish should make the ball travel through the heads in dominant fashion and find massive hold in the oil. The setup is designed to create a very strong and controlled reaction.
Comparison Compared to the original AMF Escape, the Great Escape offers noticeably less length and a distinctly earlier hook thanks to its solid cover. Against the Storm Phaze II, which relies on a symmetric core, the asymmetric core of the Great Escape delivers a stronger asymmetric change of direction as soon as it hits friction. Once the transition on the lane sets in, the strong shell of the Great Escape burns up its energy considerably faster. That positions the Great Escape as a weapon for very fresh, oil-heavy patterns.
On the Lanes This ball reaches its full potential on heavy lane conditions. Thanks to the rough surface, it reads the boards early and reliably. It works excellently as a first ball out of the bag on fresh patterns. As bowlers start to adjust their lines, the Great Escape provides enough backend reaction to drive confidently into the pocket. Carry benefits from the powerful core, since the ball develops enormous drive when it hits the pins. For dry lanes, however, the Great Escape is far too aggressive.
