First Impressions
The 900 Global Dark Matter comes in a deep, single-color black solid design. Inside works the symmetrical Clockwork core, which features a higher RG of 2.550 and a moderate differential of 0.040. For the surface, the proven S70 Solid Reactive cover is used, sanded to a 4000 grit Abralon finish out of the box. This combination of a later-revving core and the roughed-up shell should ensure that the ball reads the heads reliably and builds an extremely smooth, controllable and thoroughly predictable motion through the midlane. The cover offers sufficient hold in oil without letting the ball overreact.
Comparison
Compared directly to the 900 Global All In, which uses a pearl cover, the Dark Matter picks up noticeably earlier thanks to its solid cover and offers a far rounder, more arcing reaction at the breakpoint. Against a classic benchmark ball like the Storm Phaze II, the Dark Matter's higher RG gives it a marginally longer skid phase, but the solid cover reins it in steadily. Once the lane transition sets in and friction increases, this ball tends to release its energy very evenly. It maintains control on inconsistent boards and avoids sharp edges
On the Lanes
The 900 Global Dark Matter performs best on lane conditions with medium oil volume. Because it reads the lane reliably, it gives you the option of playing a clear line across the boards without the ball making unexpected jumps into the pocket. On controlled shots, the ball stores enough energy to produce a solid, even hit. The result is consistent carry. If friction in the midlane increases too much, however, a polished model should be the next step.
