First Impressions
The 900 Global Absolute Truth, which hit the market in the second half of 2017, comes in a striking color combination of Blue, Orange and Black. Technically it represents a significant step forward within the Prime series. At its center works the Adaptor/C Symmetric Core, which at 15 pounds delivers a low RG of 2.48 and a very high differential of 0.055. These numbers point to massive flare potential and quick rotation, even though the core is symmetrical in design. For the coverstock, the S80R Hybrid Reactive material was chosen, a more aggressive blend than on the previous models. The surface is finished at the factory with a 3000 grit pad (ICE "E" Pad), which gives the ball a dull, tacky texture in order to build traction early in the oil without sacrificing energy transfer at the backend.
Comparison In comparison, the Absolute Truth shows itself to be a powerful upgrade to the original 900 Global Truth. While the original Truth was equipped with the S74R Solid cover, the Absolute Truth uses the stronger S80R Hybrid blend. As a result, the Absolute Truth often generates more overall hook potential than the original despite the hybrid component, and digs through heavy oil even better. Compared to the Storm Phaze II, considered a direct competitor among symmetrical benchmark balls, the Absolute Truth acts a touch more aggressively at the breakpoint. The Phaze II is known for its very round, continuous motion, while the Absolute Truth can develop a bit more dynamic in the back part of the lane thanks to the high 0.055 differential. Against the asymmetrical 900 Global Inception DCT, the Absolute Truth offers a more controlled reaction as it exits the oil pattern, since the symmetrical core makes the transition from skid to roll smoother and reacts less abruptly to friction.
On the Lanes The ideal range of use for the 900 Global Absolute Truth is medium to heavy oil patterns. It works excellently as the first ball out of the bag (benchmark ball) to read what the lane is doing. Thanks to the combination of the rev-happy Adaptor/C core and the tacky hybrid surface, it offers an excellent mix of midlane read and backend motion. It is particularly effective if you need control on fresh oil but don't want to give up hook. Once the lane starts to change (transition), the hybrid cover often allows longer periods of use than pure solid balls, since it gets through the heads a little better. Should the ball roll up too early, the surface can easily be adjusted with polish to gain more length without losing the core characteristics. It is a reliable weapon for controlling the pocket and maximizing carry through a stable roll into the pins.
