First Impressions
The Track Strata Hybrid comes in an eye-catching Sapphire/Black/Smoke color combination and embodies modern bowling technology from Track. At its heart sits the asymmetric Strata core with a 2.475 RG and a 0.050 differential, supplemented by an intermediate differential of 0.017. The QR-11 Hybrid coverstock combines the properties of solid and pearl technology and is finished at the factory with 500 Siaair before being polished with Crown Factory Compound. This combination of a coarse base surface and subsequent polish should give the ball its characteristic length through the heads while still retaining enough traction for the midlane. In a direct comparison to the Track Proof Hybrid, the Strata Hybrid shows a noticeably more defined reaction at the breakpoint. While the Proof Hybrid is characterized by its smoother, more continuous motion, the Strata Hybrid creates a more pronounced change of direction as it exits the oil pattern. The higher intermediate differential and the glossy hybrid surface are responsible for this more distinct backend reaction. Compared to its solid cover counterpart, the original Track Strata, the hybrid version offers more length through the heads and a sharper angular motion. The traction of the QR-11 Hybrid coverstock positions it between aggressive solid coverstocks and clean pearl reactions. The Strata Hybrid is primarily suited to medium to heavy oil conditions, with its strengths coming through especially on medium oil patterns. If you play straighter angles through the heads, you'll benefit from the ball's ability to store energy and release it explosively on the backend. As the lane transition progresses, it offers the flexibility either to open up the angles and use the clean surface for carry, or to move parallel inside and let the core and cover handle the oil. If you have a higher rev rate, the polished hybrid surface can overreact on conditions that are too dry, while speed-dominant bowlers will appreciate the strong backend reaction. The ball should be particularly well suited to tournament bowlers who need a versatile high-performance ball for varying oil volumes and lane transitions, with its continuous reaction promising consistency even with strong traction.
