First Impressions
The Track Precision Solid, released in January 2019, is the logical follow-up to the success of the original pearl version and targets maximum oil volume. Visually, the ball is hard to miss: the striking color combination of Neon Green, Black and White creates strong contrast on the lane. Out of the box the surface carries a coarse 500/2000 Abralon finish, giving the Prime Solid cover an aggressive texture for immediate traction. Inside works the Precision SD (Single Density) core. At 15 lbs this asymmetric core delivers a very low RG of 2.49, a massive 0.054 differential and a significant intermediate differential of 0.020. Those numbers are a clear statement: this ball is built to rev up as early as possible and to develop enormous flare potential. Unlike cores that only start working at the end of the lane, the Precision SD is designed to convert energy into motion already in the front and middle part of the lane so it doesn't start sliding in heavy oil.
Comparison
Compared directly to the original Track Precision (Pearl), the Solid behaves complementarily, as expected. Where the pearl version glides far through the heads and shows a sharp, almost snappy reaction at the breakpoint, the Precision Solid digs into the oil right away. It reads the lane much earlier and creates a heavier, more continuous arc to the pocket. Set against the popular Track Paradox series (e.g. the Paradox Black), the Precision Solid often feels somewhat more controlled through the transition phase. The Paradox balls (with the I-Core) were known for a very quick change of direction; the Precision Solid, by contrast, feels a bit more true to its path and more forward-rolling, which makes it more predictable on difficult sport patterns. Against a Storm Code X (also asymmetric and built for oil), the Precision Solid offers a similar amount of overall hook, but often gets started a tick earlier, which makes it a little safer in extreme oil.
On the Lanes
The Track Precision Solid is clearly designed for heavy oil and long, fresh oil patterns. It's the workhorse for the start of a tournament, when the lanes are still flat and slick. Its heavy surface and strong core make sure it doesn't slide through the breakpoint but reliably slows down and turns to the pocket. It's especially well suited if you throw the ball fast and often struggle to get balls to hook, or if you're looking for a defined line on a flood of oil. The ball smooths out the breakpoint: instead of jumping wildly, it rolls powerfully through the pins. For dry lanes or broken-down heads it is completely unsuitable; there it would burn up energy too early and arrive at the pin deck without power. It needs oil in the front part of the lane (the heads) to play to its strengths and to optimize carry through its mass.
