First Impressions
The Track Mako Attack was released in August 2017 as the more aggressive pearl version within the Mako series. The ball stands out with its distinctive black, white and gold color scheme. Inside sits the asymmetric Mako Core, which is built for high performance with a 2.48 RG and a 0.051 differential in a 15-pound ball. The 0.016 intermediate differential further supports the asymmetric dynamics. For the coverstock, Track uses QR-10 Pearl Reactive, prepped at the factory with a 500/1000 Abralon finish and then polished to a high shine with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish. This combination of a strong, early-rotating core and a polished shell should allow a clean skid phase through the heads without giving up overall hook potential.
Comparison Compared to the original Track Mako with its solid cover, the Mako Attack offers noticeably more length and a far more angular reaction at the breakpoint. While the Track Mako stands for maximum control on extreme oil, the Mako Attack is designed to generate the necessary width as the oil volume breaks down. Compared to the Storm Code Red, the Mako Attack shows a somewhat stronger move in the midlane, while the Storm Code Red is often perceived as even more angular off the backend. Against the Brunswick Kingpin Pearl, the Mako Attack gets into a roll a bit earlier and offers more stable traction when the oil pattern still carries a little more volume through the middle of the lane. It thus closes the gap between pure heavy-oil monsters and weaker pearl balls for dry conditions.
On the Lanes The ideal application for the Track Mako Attack is on medium to heavy oil conditions, especially once the transition sets in and solid balls start reacting too early in the heads. The ball should let you move deeper into the lane and play bigger angles across the boards, since the pearl surface stores energy to the breakpoint. If you have a moderate rev rate, the asymmetric core provides enough support to produce a convincing move to the pocket even on longer patterns. In practice, the ball shows its strengths above all when there is friction at the end of the pattern, which results in a powerful reaction and strong carry. If the lane surface offers extreme friction in the heads, the Mako Attack can be refined further with a surface adjustment to guarantee the length you want.
