First Impressions
The Track Tundra, released in November 2016, aims squarely at the dry-lane, maximum-control segment. Visually it shows up in a shimmering Silver/Blue Pearl design, and the high-gloss finish (500/1000 Abralon with Powerhouse Factory Finish Polish) signals its intent immediately: length. Inside works the specially developed Track Symmetric Core, which comes with a very high 2.57 RG and a low 0.029 differential (at 15 lbs). Those numbers are extremely "tame" and keep the ball from jumping early. Combined with the DR-4 Pearl Reactive coverstock, which originally comes from the Hx series, this ball is designed to ignore friction in the front part of the lane completely and to respond only very late.
Comparison
Compared directly to the Roto Grip Hustle POW (Pearl) released at the same time, the Track Tundra often goes a touch longer and stays more controlled at the breakpoint. While the Hustle series still shows a certain "pop" move at the end of the pattern, the Tundra remains extremely smooth and flowing. Set against the stronger Track Heat, the Tundra is a massive step down. The Heat reads the lane earlier and reacts more sharply, while the Tundra comes into play where even the Heat generates too much hook. Against a Storm Tropical Breeze, the Tundra offers a bit more stability at the pin deck thanks to its core, but behaves similarly forgiving on the lane.
On the Lanes
The Track Tundra is the ultimate "desert weapon." Its territory is extremely dry lanes ("fried lanes") or heavily played-down house patterns where every other ball hooks too early. It is perfect for tournament players at the end of a long block, when the heads are burned up and you have to force the ball to create length. It lets you stand farther right and play more direct without fear of an overreaction. For beginners it is also an excellent first ball, since it forgives rotation mistakes generously and does not shoot uncontrolled across the lane. On oil, however, this ball has no business; there it will slide straight with no reaction.
